From Rock Israel – Making Music – Building Community

'Makrok' is a groundbreaking national musical project of the Community Center Society that combines experiential learning of the sources of Jewish-Israeli culture and original musical creation inspired by them. The Makrok is intended for musicians aged 21 and over. These are singers, solo musicians and ensembles - working in all styles of music (rock, pop, Mizrahi, rap, jazz, etc.) who go through a fascinating personal and creative journey during the project. The participants in the Makrok are women and men, religious and secular, veterans and immigrants, with the love of music and the desire to create connecting everyone.

Through a structured in-depth process, the Koruk reveals the musical forces in the community and upgrades them into an artistic lever that supports community resilience. The special connection between the project participants while engaging with Jewish identity creates a human infrastructure that is available to the community throughout the entire cycle of the year.

The Makrouk celebrates its 13th anniversary and was attended by over 4,000 community musicians in 70 different municipalities across the country - from the Golan Heights to Eilat. The scope of participants and the nationwide distribution make the Makrouk the largest original community musical creation project in Israel .

Top-notch Israeli artists are leading the project in each of the authorities, including: Micha Shitrit, Hemi Rudner, Ariel Horowitz, Corin Elal, Yahli Sobol, Dana Berger, Yair Dalal, Ben Artzi, Aya Korem, and more .

Alongside the leading artist, each group is staffed by an experienced Beit Midrash instructor who is familiar with the sources of Jewish-Israeli culture, from the Bible to modern Hebrew poetry, and in addition, a group coordinator who is a local musician skilled in directing musical ensembles, arranging songs, and producing them. Together, they provide participants with close accompaniment and professional tools for writing, composing, and performing original songs inspired by the sources.

The project in each of the authorities lasted over six months and included 15 weekly musical meetings, each lasting 3 hours. The meetings of the group, which consists of 20 participants in each authority, are held in an acoustic music room equipped with musical instruments allocated by the authority for the benefit of the project.

At the end of the project, the participants in each authority perform in a final show in front of an audience of at least 300 people, and record the original songs they created in a professional studio and upload them to social media.
